Jacob Anderson : Defying the odds of CHD

SALEM, Ore. — Having half a heart has nothing on Jacob Anderson. Competing in CFC’s Recreational programs, Jacob is enjoying the sport he loves outside of his special heart condition.

Five months before he was born, doctors discovered Jacob had a congenital heart defect, called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, that causes the left side the heart to form incorrectly. After countless doctors visits and multiple surgeries, Jacob remains a fighter who is determined to live life.

Loving to run and compete, Jacob started playing Rec soccer at CFC in 2022. He first got into soccer by following in his older sisters footsteps who plays on the Club’s 2010G Black team. Now, he has found a love for all sports and wants to have fun and compete as much as possible.

Working closely with the American Heart Association, Doernbecher’s Children's Hospital, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Anderson family has been dedicated to sharing their story and raising awareness for other kids like Jacob.
