CFC WELCOMES CHRIS THOMS AS DIRECTOR OF COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS

SALEM, Ore. - Capital Futbol Club (CFC) welcomes Chris Thoms as the Club’s Director of Competitive Programming. Thom’s role will be to oversee all Club Competitive teams and help bridge the gap between recreational play and the Academy level.

“My goal is to streamline the experience between teams so that things are consistent across all levels and age groups,” states Thoms. “I want to create safe spaces for learning. Safe spaces create better development, which create better growth and development as a Club and community.”

Thoms was brought to CFC through his longstanding relationship with Club Technical Director, Joe Wentworth. The two went through their USSF “B” License course together and have the same vision when it comes to developing various player pathways.

“Chris is going to be a great addition to our team,” says Wentworth. “Between his playing and coaching experience, we are confident he will support our players' development and create systems that further our mission both on and off the field.”

Thoms holds a USSF “B” Coaching License with aspirations of obtaining his A License soon. His playing career spanned international professional opportunities in England, the Netherlands, and Asia. He also competed locally with the Cascade Surge, the Club’s previous USL PDL team.

Outside of soccer, Thoms is a product designer focused on helping companies understand the humans that use their products by teaching and implementing inclusive, Human-Centered Design practices. He's been helping both designers and companies build better experiences by increasing their knowledge of UX Strategies and principles for over seven years.

Thoms has been a member of several early-stage immersive tech startups and has designed with the human experience at the center of bleeding-edge technologies. A relentless questioner, he is constantly asking: who is enabled by this experience, who is not?
